MY PHOTOGRAPHS

I do not live in an epic landscape — it is actually quite humble. With the exception of a few hills, between 800 and 1000 feet in elevation, the terrain consists mostly of open fields interspersed with tracts of forest. Low hills slope down to a broad valley on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. In the distance, to the west, are the Adirondack Mountains of New York and to the east are the Green Mountains of Vermont. These are the frames, or bookends, of where I live.
The majority of my pictures have been taken in the town of Charlotte, Vermont, either at Lake Champlain or in the woods of my neighborhood. On rare occasions I will drive a short distance out of town to photograph waterfalls or some Green Mountain scenery.
I am fortunate to live in a place with so much unspoiled nature about me. I have by choice limited my photography to the beauty of this place. There is a discipline in confining my attention to such a narrow geography. I am forced to go deeper than I might otherwise go by photographing the same things in the same places over and over. I develop a relationship with the various land forms and flora. And to be fair, there is not a complete absence of variety, even in the same place with the same things, as the light can change everything! That said though, nine times out of ten I am challenged to discover an angle or aspect that I haven’t seen before.
I hope you can sense even a little of the beauty that so inspires me in this place.
